First Day of Spring

 Zora Neale Hurston
Spring-time in Florida is not a matter of peeping violets or bursting buds merely. It is a riot of color in nature—glistening green leaves, pink, blue, purple, yellow blossoms that fairly stagger the visitor from the north. The miles of hyacinths lie like an undulating carpet on the surface of the river and divide reluctantly when the slow-moving alligators push their way log-like across. the nights are white nights for the moon shines with dazzling splendor, or in the absence of that goddess, the soft darkness creeps down laden with innumerable scents. The heavy fragrance of magnolias mingled with the delicate sweetness of jasmine and wild roses.
Zora Neale Hurston  (1891–1960), African-American novelist, short story writer, folklorist, playwright and anthropologist. John Redding, in John Redding Goes to Sea, Stylus (1921).

So You Think I'm Perfect?

It's been a rotten week!  I'm asking myself ...Why do people judge when you don't live up to "their standards?"  My daughter and I aren't speaking and I'm sure she's glad for the break.   Today I came across this quote from author Jodi Picoult's book "My Sister's Keeper." It made me laugh and cry at the same time but I feel lots better...

"I'm lonely. Why do you think I had to learn to act so independent? I also get mad too quickly, and I hog the covers, and my second toe is longer than my big one. My hair has it's own zip code. Plus, I get certifiably crazy when I've got PMS. You don't love someone because they're perfect. You love them in spite of the fact that they're not."
Jodi Picoult (My Sister's Keeper)

I enjoyed watching the movie, it was very thought provoking, but I haven't read the book yet.  It's going to the top of my reading list now.

Sorry daughter.  I'm so fine with you having another baby as soon as you and hubby want, especially if she's as wonderful as baby Jack.  Thanks for putting up with me. I Really Love You! (Kiss, Kiss, Spit, Spit)
